Communication through music has been central to Bruce Robinson’s life. His career focused on marketing, first in packaged goods and later with Houston Symphony and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. At the same time, he has enjoyed a performance career spanning more than half a century, appearing in solo, concerto, and chamber music settings. With the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, he participated in numerous performances, including world premieres of works by Rami Khalife, Dana Al Fardan, and Wael Binali. Notably, he was the solo pianist throughout an entire concert of Al Fardan’s Layla.
Beyond performance, Bruce’s musical endeavors have been diverse. He hosted a daily classical radio program, taught a course in listening at Rice University, conducted a “monster concert” featuring 275 pianists, wrote numerous program notes and taught piano at three universities. Currently, Bruce records music and creates video content aiming to deepen listeners’ understanding.
Mr. Robinson decided to study music after several early lessons with Menahem Pressler of the Beaux Arts Trio. He studied with Karen Shaw at Indiana University, earning Bachelor and Master degrees with high distinction. He then completed a doctorate under the guidance of artist-teacher Ozan Marsh at the University of Arizona. Additionally, he holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. His recordings are at youtube.com/orchmarketer.
Bruce resides in Tucson, Arizona, with his wife Han Li.
