Filippo Gorini

Filippo Gorini

With his rare intellect, bold interpretations, and visionary artistry, Filippo Gorini has rapidly ascended to international stardom. Since winning the prestigious Telekom-Beethoven Competition in 2015, Gorini has earned acclaim from critics and audiences alike:

  • “Brave, original playing” ★★★★★ – The Guardian;
  • “There is no doubt: a star has risen, perhaps of the brightest kind” – Diapason D’Or;
  • “He is considered the heir of Maurizio Pollini” – Corriere della Sera.

Gorini’s accolades include the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award and the Premio Abbiati (Best Soloist of the Year) in 2022, cementing his reputation as one of the most exciting pianists of his generation.

Filippo Gorini’s latest artistic endeavor, Sonata for Seven Cities, brings his unique vision to Hong Kong this November as part of a month-long residency organised by Premiere Performances of Hong Kong. The project will kick off with his highly anticipated Hong Kong debut recital at City Hall Concert Hall on Sunday, November 2, 2025, featuring a captivating programme of Romantic fantasies by Brahms and Schubert, alongside the world premiere of Swiss composer Beat Furrer’s Klavierstück (A Piece for Piano).

Sonata for Seven Cities: Transforming Performances into Cultural Journeys

Born from Gorini’s bold artistic vision, Sonata for Seven Cities is a groundbreaking global project with residencies in Vienna, Cape Town, Hong Kong, Portland, Bogotá, Medellín, and Milan. Rejecting the typical whirlwind concert tour, Gorini spends an entire month immersed in each city, creating deep and lasting connections with local communities. Each residency features:

  • World-class performances, including the premiere of a commissioned work.
  • Extensive educational outreach and community engagement, bringing music to underserved audiences.

In Hong Kong, Gorini’s residency will include performances for underprivileged children, refugees, the blind community and the homeless, in collaboration with organisations such as the Music Children Foundation, Musical Chaos Foundation, RUN Hong Kong, Hong Kong Blind Union and Impact Hong Kong. Gorini believes in the power of music to touch every soul, whether playing for a thousand people or a group of ten.

Education and Collaboration

A cornerstone of the project is education. Gorini will mentor a select group of piano students throughout his month-long residency, conduct masterclasses at institutions such as The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Hong Kong Baptist University, and collaborate with musicians from the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for a chamber music performance.

Documenting a Global Journey

This transformative project will be chronicled in a seven-part documentary series, scheduled for global release in 2027. The series, titled Sonata for Seven Cities, will showcase not only Gorini’s powerful performances but also his behind-the-scenes interactions with communities and artists, highlighting the unifying power of music

Donors supporting this initiative will gain access to an exclusive Limited Edition Collector’s Box, offering a unique keepsake of this historic project.
