Established in 1977, the event is an English arts festival devoted mainly to classical music from the 18th-century and earlier. As Britain’s premier festival of historically informed performance, the event is set in some of the country’s most beautiful historic venues every year featuring world class musicians like Emma Kirkby, Jordi Savall, The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and more. Aside a series of interrelated concerts and lectures highlighting particular themes given by a reputable cast, the biennial York Early Music International Young Artists Competition remains the highlight.
