First established in 1962 in commemoration of Van Cliburn’s historic achievements, the quadrennial competition is widely recognized as one of the most important piano contests, discovering the finest pianists from around the world. Highly esteemed musicians and professionals are invited as juries. Previous jurors include Leon Fleisher, Malcolm Frager, Alberto Ginastera and many more. During a demanding three-week schedule, competitors are required to perform a wide range of repertoire in a series of solo recitals and in collaboration with ensembles and orchestra. Successful contestants will perform in international concert tours and have CD recording. Radu Lupu, Cristina Ortiz, Sa Chen and Haochen Zhang are some of the previous winners.
