Country: Italy
Founded in 1958 by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gian Carlo Menotti, the festival has become one of the most noticeable cultural landmarks in Italy. It features a vast array of concerts, opera, dance, drama, visual arts and roundtable discussions on science. This multi-faceted feast of cultural events in the heart of Umbria has been duplicated in the United States by the founder in 1977, in Charleston, South Carolina. The “Two Worlds” (Dei 2 Mondi) in the name of the festival comes from Gian Carlo Menotti’s intention to have the worlds of American and European culture facing each other in his event.
