First launched in 1977, Spitalfields Music began as a classical music festival, inspired by Christ Church, as an extraordinary space to experience music and under threat of demolition. To date a variety of programmes covering classical and folk repertoires as well as commissioned new works are presented at the historical East End of London. Dedicated to promote potential artists, the festival partners with local schools to develop students’ playing and singing skills, with the opportunity of performance during the festival.
