Established in 1994 by music critic and pianophile Goh Yew Lin, the festival is the first of its kind in Asia, featuring piano music by artists of international repute. During the week, four musicians from all over the world are invited to Singapore to perform solo piano recitals, with repertoire chosen according to different themes set each year. Over the years, many respected pianists have made their appearances in the festival, including Angela Hewitt, Nikolai Demidenko, Vladimir Feltsman, Marc-André Hamelin, Piotr Anderszewski, Yevgeny Sudbin.
