Established in 1991, the festival is an annual celebration of chamber music in the popular tourist city of Risør, Norway. Broad ranges of music from the 18th to 20th centuries are presented by talented musicians and ensembles from around the world. The Artistic Directors, Henning Kraggerud and Lars Anders Tomter, also focus on including Norwegian and contemporary music in the programme. Performing artists stay in the city throughout the entire festival week, thus creating a special atmosphere and a precious opportunity for audience to get closer to meeting them.
