First held in 1930, the event is an annual summer opera festival to present works by Puccini in Italy. Located in Torre del Lago, a Tuscan Riviera town near the composer’s birthplace Lucca, the festival presents four operatic productions each season. Performances take place in the famous open-air theatre, the Teatro dei Quattromila, which is very close to the “Villa Puccini,” the house in which the composer had lived and worked on his major operas until pollution produced by peat works on the lake forced him to settle in Viareggio later.
