The Competition is divided into three sections according to ensemble size: string quartet, wind ensembles and any combination of chamber music ensembles with 2-6 players. Winner of each section will be invited to tour around various Japanese cities for about three weeks to perform in concerts. One of the special highlights is the Menhuin Gold Prize for chamber music ensemble candidates, which is named after the renowned violinist for his contribution serving as the Honorary Artistic Director during the first to third Competitions. Besides, the Folklore Music Special Prize will be awarded to the best interpretation of traditional or ethnic music repertoires.
