First established in 1961 by the Croatian Composers’ Society, the festival is held biennially in Zagreb, Croatia. Since its inception, the cultural event has immediately gathered the eminent names in the international music scene, including John Cage, Olivier Messiaen, Karlheinz Stockhausen and many more. With a special dedication to the new music, the diversified programme includes “living Classics” of contemporary works and projects written by the new generation of composers from all over the world. In addition to music for symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles and experimental musical theatre, the events extend to various arts forms such as contemporary dance, jazz and electronics to alternative music scenes.
