Founded by impresario Jay K. Hoffman and William Lockwood in 1966, the event was first known as Midsummer Serenades – A Mozart Festival before gaining its present reputation. Dedicated to Mozart, the festival takes place at Lincoln Center in New York City every summer. With an experimental start-off, the festival has been cited by New Yorkers as their first classical music experience.
