First started off as the prestigious Torino Settembre Musica in 1978, the festival has expanded to form the present MITO SettembreMusica in 2007 as two cities Torino and Milano jointly became host cities. The festival presents a wide range of musical genres, from early, classical and contemporary, with symphonic and chamber music concerts to jazz, rock, pop and singer-songwriter performances, as well as projects created exclusively for MITO SettembreMusica. Moreover, the event places pioneering and important focus series on major contemporary composers, amongst which works by Arvo Pärt, György Ligeti, Steve Reich, Alfred Schnittke, Salvatore Sciarrino, Toru Takemitsu and many more are notable features. The glamorous musical casts is also a great highlight of the festival, big names including Claudio Abbado, Martha Argerich, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Daniel Barenboim, Gidon Kremer, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Mstislav Rostropovic, and many more, have all previously been captured under the spotlight.
