Jointly established in 1989 by Rupert Hamer, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, Kenneth Tribe and Marco van Pagee, the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition has aimed to foster a world class calibre of musicians. With the late violinist Isaac Stern as the Founding Honorary Patron, the competition has evolved to present two major international chamber music competitions on an alternating four-year cycle – the other event being the biennial Asia-Pacific Chamber Music Competition.
