The event is directed by internationally renowned pianist Martha Argerich. Supported by a large local public, the festival aims to promote international goodwill through music and by developing musical culture from Beppu across the world. It provides children with an opportunity to appreciate high-quality music, and encourages the development of young musicians. The Festival also brings an opportunity for Argerich and other musicians from around the world, in particular Asia, to perform together in this seaside town famous for its hot springs.
