Founded by Professors Richard Hauser and Dr. Josef Dichler, the event first took place in 1961 and ranks among the most renowned contests today. It is hosted by the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna every four years. Dedicated exclusively to Beethoven, contestants will perform various piano works by the master. In addition to cash prizes, the First Prize winner is also awarded a Bösendorfer Grand piano and concert opportunities in Austria and other countries.
