Founded in 1943 by pianist Marguerite Long and violinist Jacques Thibaud, the annual competition has become one of the best-received contests for young, enthusiastic pianists and violinists. From 2011 onwards, a third category is added to the programme: singing, paying special tribute to the French soprano Régine Crespin. Hence, each category takes place every three years in Paris, attracting talented musicians from all over the world. Former prize winners include Pascal Rogé, Sofya Gulyak, Michèle Auclair, Solenne Païdassi, Roman Burdenko, and Cédric Tiberghien. The international jury panel includes top representatives of the classical music scene. Salvatore Accardo, Ventsislav Yankoff, Olivier Gardon, and Jean-Claude Pennetier are some of the previous jurors.
