Established in 1980 by Japanese violinist Koji Toyoda, the festival has become one of the important cultural offerings of the Japanese classical music scene. Throughout its running, the event has invited numerous notable musicians from around the world to gather in Kusatsu – to present their interpretation of beautiful music and to share with the audience their musicality. The festival also features a two-week music academy each year, offering intensive music trainings held by renowned professors and instrumentalists from overseas benefitting younger generation. Atop great music, guests can also visit the famous hot springs in the area that originate from Kusatsu-Shiane.
