Named after Spanish pianist, José Iturbi, the competition was created in 1981 and takes place every two years in Valencia, birth place of Iturbi. The repertoire includes a wide range of classical and romantic works by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin and other masters. Prize winners will be offered recital engagements and the First Grand Prize will also receive a recording contract. Past laureates include Elza Kolodin, Patrick O’Byrne, Christian Beldi, Alexandre Moutouzkine and Duncan Gifford.
