Founded in 1985, the triennial competition has become one of the most prestigious international contests solely dedicated to oboe, one of the essential instruments of the orchestra. Held in Karuizawa, Japan, it aims to promote the true artistic value and repertoire of the instrument, assisting passionate oboists to expand their career opportunities in Japan and abroad. The jury panel comprises established woodwind players and conductors. In addition to the top three awards, an Encouragement Award to a Japanese participant and Audience Awards will also be given. Previous prize winners include Jean-Pierre Arnaud, Paolo Grazia and Peter Cooper.
