Founded in 1973 by Turkish businessman Dr. Nejat Eczacıbaşı, the Istanbul Festival has featured the country’s finest programmes in all disciplines of art together with international seminars, conferences and lectures. Held every June and July in Istanbul, it offers a selection of European classical music, ballet, opera and traditional music performances with the participation of prominent artists from all over the world. Big names including Aldo Ciccolini, Ivo Pogorelich, Yehudi Menuhin, Itzhak Perlman, Julian Lloyd Webber, Mischa Maisky and many more were previous performing guests.
