Held in classical music legend Beethoven’s birthplace Bonn since 1999, the competition has become a highly-regarded fixture on the German music scene. Since 2005 the event is held biennially with an aim to unearth and nurture talented young pianists. Apart from solo performances, semi-finalists will be accompanied by established artists in their chamber music performances. Finalists will collaborate with Beethoven Orchester Bonn to perform in a programme consisting of mainly Beethoven’s repertoires. Past laureates include Hinrich Alpers (2009), Ian Yungwuk Yoo (2007) and Henri Sigfridsson (2005). The competition is sponsored by Deutsche Telekom with an aim to encourage lively cultural exchanges and to ensure the accessibility of arts to a wider audience.
