Named after violinist and composer Joseph Joachim (Royal Concertmaster in Hannover from 1852 to 1867), the triennial competition is first launched in 1989 in Hannover, Lower Saxony. It has become one of the most highly endowed violin contests in the world. Talented violinists will perform in front of an international jury of experienced violinists and music experts, presided by artistic director Krzysztof Wegrzyn. The winner will have the opportunity to perform in concerts and have a CD recording. Previous prize winners include Ning Feng, Antje Weithaas and Fumiaki Miura.
