You never know when to take Glenn Gould seriously. It’s even hard to tell when he takes himself seriously! So what do we make of his plans for an aquatic “Death and Transfiguration” featuring morally enlightened reptiles and fish? Although a herd of cattle apparently enjoyed Gould’s rendition of a Mahler “Wunderhorn” setting — including orchestral effects — it seemingly carries much less weight with the elephants. Mind you, Mahler suitably bores the lions for sure!
