Established in 1948, the festival has first started as a provision of a complementary cultural activity for the foreign visitors studying at Menéndez Pelayo International University in Cantabria. Together with the Granada Festival, it is regarded as one of the oldest music festivals held in Spain, featuring more than thirty intense days of music, dance, theatre and recital programmes. Maestros such as Rubinstein, Casado, Brailowsky, Menuhin etc. have all performed on the Santander stage. Besides music, visitors will find the coastal Santander a perfect resort destination for summer vacation, combining nature, art and culture.
