A violin crafted out of a car roof, dairy milking cups used as chimes and petrol cans turned into guitars — welcome to Girgarre’s junk orchestra.

International composer and musical director Graeme Leak arrived in Girgarre last year, a town in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley with a population of 190, wanting to put together an orchestra with a difference.

He put out the request to the community for any working or broken instruments or hard rubbish that could be used and was overwhelmed with the response. Full story.
