Founded in 1980 by famous German conductor Karl Münchinger and his Stuttgart chamber orchestra, and under the leadership of Russian violinist and conductor Vladimir Spivakov since 1989, the Colmar Festival has remained its adherence to demanding standards throughout the years. Located in north-eastern France at the “Capital of Alsatian Wine”, the event has gathered musicians and ensembles of the highest level for concerts featuring diverse repertoires. Each edition sets its theme upon a legendary musician as a tribute, for instance Sviatoslav Richter (2009), Mstislav Rostropovitch (2008) and Charles Munch (2007).
