Established by BBC Wales in 1983, the event was immediately perceived as an important showcase leading to a start of professional vocal career. Agents, opera house managers, and more influential figures in the vocal world will be searching for deserving talents via this biennial event. At the same time, the competition is delighted to gather and present vocal talents worldwide at St. David’s Hall, as to introduce new faces to the opera world. In 2011, the competition is happy to announce the join-in of New Zealand soprano Dame Kiri te Kanawa as the patron and jury member. Shen Yang (2007), Nicole Cabell(2005) and Ekaterina Shcherbachenko (2009) are previous winners.
