Established in 1953, the event was inspired by Edvard Grieg’s “Music Festival in Bergen” back in 1898. Today, the Bergen International Festival is the largest of its kind in the Nordic countries presenting a series of programmes in diverse art forms: Orchestral music, chamber music, opera, recitals, theatre, dance theatre, dance, children’s programme, festival exhibition and outdoor events/street performances. Located in the county of Hordaland on the south-western coast of Norway, this World Heritage City is the home of Edvard Grieg, Ole Bull and Harald Sæverud as well as an important cultural hub in its region.
