Established in 1876 by Wagner, the event originally stages only his own composition works. Taking place in the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, a theatre which Wagner personally supervised the design and construction, the venue features many architectural innovations to accommodate the huge Wagnerian orchestras. Hans Richter, Hermann Levi and Engelbert Humperdinck were amongst the great maestros who had performed on Bayreuther’s stage.
