First launched in 1955 by renowned theatre director Dinos Giannopoulos, the festival is the oldest and most established cultural event in Greece. Various art forms are featured, including music, ballet and theatre. Through collaboration with artists and performance companies from around the world, it focuses on promoting the work of young and emerging artists. In the past decades, many respected international stars have appeared in the festival, including Mitropoulos, Maria Callas, and Pavarotti.
