Set in the Colorado Rockies, the festival was launched in 1949 together with the Goethe Bicentennial Convocation by philanthropist Walter Paepcke. The vision of the event was to foster the growth of the human spirit through the melding of art and nature. Orchestral concerts, chamber music, opera, master classes and lectures are organized during the eight-week summer festival. Throughout the years, Aspen continues to bring the brightest young musicians together with the classical music world’s foremost instructors.
